Planning Subcommittee

The strongest thread running through the work of the Group - and probably the one that attracts most interest - is the continued and dedicated work of the what most of us think as the Planning Group. It reviews planning applications submitted to the Town Hall which affect our area. Neighbours are offered advice if they wish to query any application but the Group, as a body, does not oppose plans unless they seem contrary to the guidelines laid down in the Unitary Development Plan which succeeded the District Plan. The District Plan was the outcome of the Council's decision to make this a Study Area. The Group took part in discussions and members made suggestions which were incorporated into the Plan; this lays down guidelines for the development of the area, which should be for housing, open spaces, industry etc, together with certain restrictions such as multi-occupancy and hotel and office expansion.

The Planning Group is led by Bevan Adams, tel. 249 2562, Email: b.adams@sheffield.ac.uk

Luncheon Club for the Housebound

The Luncheon Club used to meet at Shirley House, St Andrew's Psalter Lane Church, each Monday. Members were collected by volunteer drivers at about 10.30 am and sat and chatted with tea and biscuits until lunch at 12 noon. Lunch, prepared by a team of volunteer cooks, was followed by coffee and members were taken home at about 1.15 pm. Lunch cost £1.50.

The Club ran for 27 years. Unfortunately, because of failing numbers, it disbanded early in 2004. A similar Club continues to operate from the King's Centre on Thursdays.
