Community Assemblies have replaced Area Panels that existed for more than a decade, and are building upon their work with local groups and residents.
Each Community Assembly has a budget and communities are consulted as to how this should be spent on local projects.
‘You Say’ and ‘You Choose’ sessions are held regularly around each ward in various locations giving residents the opportunity to discuss with coucillors and officers what they would like to see change or improve. Open to everyone, the ‘You Say’ sessions are where ideas and projects are developed: the ‘You Choose’ sessions pinpoint funding priorities. These are put forward to formal meetings every quarter where Councillors say in public what has happened.
The South Community Assembly covers the four wards of Nether Edge, Gleadless Valley, Graves Park, Beauchief and Greenhill. It covers 1,989 hectares (7.7 square miles) of south Sheffield. It has a population of 73,988. It is made up of a mosaic of urban areas surrounded by woodlands, parks and green space.
