Common Ground - Do You Care about Open Space in our community?

Common Ground, the former St Peter’s Church Hall and grounds has for 10 years been run by local people as a resource and community facility for the residents of Sharrow, Nether Edge and Brincliffe. It has received support and funding from the Church, Sheffield City Council and people from the surrounding area. But now in more difficult times the expense of running the Hall and exceeds its income from the rental of rooms etc - for example the heating costs have doubled since 2003.

The Trustees have begun taking urgent action to ensure Common Ground activities can continue to cover the cost of maintaining the building  and grounds. One of the ways to cut costs has been for the Trustees and local people to handle the cleaning, booking and general upkeep of the Hall directly themselves. In addition they have negotiated a better arrangement for heating costs with their energy supplier.

Common Ground provides Open Space in the neighbourhood, a hub for community activities and a youth club for our local young people throughout the week giving them somewhere to spend their time off the street. It will be lost if we do not support it actively.

Any offer of support or help such as cleaning or working on the garden in addition to ideas for raising funds would be welcome if not essential.
